McGrinsey Impact Map: internal Miro snapshot of impact actors

The McGrinsey Impact Map was an internal Miro snapshot from July 2022: a landscape of actors and approaches around impact measurement, not a live product. The screenshot below is that exact state.

We built the map to get our own overview. Standards next to software, consulting next to funds, NGOs next to legal frames. Anyone new to impact measurement could see, at a glance, which kinds of players exist.

What sat on the map

We gathered, among other things:

• Abbreviations
• Reporting

The list is a sorting, not a ranking. A standard is not a fund. An accelerator is not a community. The map made those differences visible before anyone treated “impact” as one blurry word.

What a map like this is for

An impact map helps when you enter the field and the names swirl. You need categories before you hunt partners. You need abbreviations explained before you sign a report. You need a split between measurement software and the consultancy that sells the same software.

What the map was not: a public directory with a maintenance promise, not a shop, not an index product. It was Miro work for us. The screenshot stays as proof of how we sorted the field, and as an invitation to build your own sorting.

If impact measurement interests you

Start with the buckets above. Write three actors you already know into the right row. Write three you still have to look up. Then you see where your blind spot sits: standards, money, law, or the software that stores the numbers.

The 2022 map is history. The question under it remains: who measures impact, who sells the measurement, and who pays for it.

If you use the list above as a checklist, one afternoon is enough. Mark where you already have partners. Mark where only buzzwords sit. Mark where law and reporting will catch you later if you ignore them today. Then you turned an old screenshot into a current work list, without pretending the Miro file is still our product.
